The Type 97 Chi-Ha was a medium tank developed by Mitsubishi for the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA). Introduced in 1937, it was designed to provide improved mobility and reliability compared to earlier Japanese armored vehicles. Armed with a 57 mm low-velocity gun in a relatively small turret, the Chi-Ha was intended primarily for infantry support rather than anti-tank combat. It became the standard Japanese medium tank of the late 1930s and early World War II, seeing extensive service in China, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific, and remained in use throughout much of the war.
